Penn and Teller — Fool Us is a competition in magic television show in which magicians perform tricks in front of American comedian-magician duo Penn & Teller. The first 2 seasons featured nimble host Jonathan Ross, and the 2nd season from then on by the Penn and Teller: Fool Us Hostess Alyson Hannigan.
Every episode begins with the introduction stating the reason for the series. Penn & Teller come out and take their seats towards center stage, and eager magicians will perform their magic in front of them with an audience in the studio. Following each show, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal whether they are aware of how the trick was executed, in a cryptic manner, usually by using language or recording the technique and presenting it privately to the magicians to confirm, so as to avoid divulging the method of the trick.
The fifth season will premiere the 5th of October, 2022.
What’s in The Future Penn and Teller — Fool Us?
Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn and Teller Theater at Las Vegas (season two onward). Following each show, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how the trick was done, and the magician(s) who performed it get the Fool Us trophy and a five-star flight for a trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act for the show of Penn & Teller, in addition to The Rio Hotel & Casino.
The 11th season began on October 16, 2021.
Teller mentions that doublespeak can be used to teach people new methods without divulging the secret.
When the illusion is authentic, or if Penn & Teller are unable to figure out how it was done The magician will be awarded the Fool Us award and the opportunity to perform as the opening act of Penn Teller’s Las Vegas show.
A backstage judge, who is well-versed in the techniques of magic, and has witnessed the trick before the show and makes any necessary adjustments, whether Penn & Teller were fooled and, if they were, by how much.
